From Nowhere to Network

Working on promotion for an iPhone app put out by American Express Publishing and GoldenWare Travel Technologies.  I had contacted a few qualified people to try the app and post a review on their blogs. Today one of those contacts notified me that on August 5th 11-12PM they will be talking about it on Miami NBC 6 Today in South Florida!

Although I can’t take full credit for the TV exposure since I hadn’t asked for that, if I hadn’t gotten the right person with the right credentials, it wouldn’t have happened. Thank you to @skysteward for the work he is doing and thanks to @theflyingpinto for connecting us.

Through the Looking Glass

Only a few short months ago I entered through the looking glass (or computer screen) and fell into a strange world with strange words and odd ways. Tweet, blog, FBML, twitter, client, mobile app, page, CMS, post, list, analytics, follow, share, attract, convert, wiki….I could go on and on. Marketing where you don’t market. This was the world of Web 2.0, yet another term I had to define. A term that has been around for a while, it is generally defined as

“…the moniker for an emerging set of Internet-based tools and an emerging philosophy on how to use them. The technologies encompassed by Web 2.0 include, but are by no means limited to, blogs, tags, RSS, social bookmarking, and AJAX. The philosophy focuses on the idea that the people who consume media, access the Internet, and use the Web shouldn’t passively absorb what’s available — rather, they should be active contributors, helping customize media and technology for their own purposes, as well as those of their communities. This philosophy contrasts sharply with the old “Web 1.0″ methodology, in which news was provided by a handful of large corporations, Web pages were static and rarely updated, and only the tech-savvy could contribute to the development of the World Wide Web.” ~Alexandra Krasne

Slowly and surely I’m picking up on the lingo, the useage of multiple platforms and skill to be able best use them to promote a company, product, or individual. So this is my beginning. It will be here that I share and organize the tips, tricks and information that I find that will “take me to the end” but where I stop, only time will tell. There are a lot of people out there looking into this sort of work as well as companies who need someone to oversee this kind of promotion for their business. I’m hoping to help out the newbies (as I still consider myself to be) and also show my growing abilities and skills.
